My Recreational Kit is about as simple as it gets. I use a Zeagle Stainless Steel Backplate from divetub.com.au, combined with a Zeagle all elastic 34 pound wing. The harness is a Standard Zeagle with 2 D-rings on the shoulders and one on each waist. I use a 1" Crotch strap to hold the rig close to my back. After about 400 hours underwater on this set-up I can say without any hesitation "it does not get any better than this". The simplicity of this rig is all that is required for recreational diving.
I use a Zeagle Flathead VI First Stage backed up by a Zeagle Octo-Z. If you have not had a chance to take a set of these regs underwater I would strongly suggest giving them a try, after 10 years of diving they are the nicest Reg I have had the pleasure to breath off. I use a Zeagle Octo-Z inflator/Occy. I hate hoses so for me less is best. The Octo-Z is the most simple combination Occy/Inflator around and has less moving parts than any other.
